Show Profile: My Fair Lady

My Fair Lady is such a classic! On Broadway in 1962 this show is a great standard for most theaters. It is based on the book by Alan Jay Lerner, with music by Frederick Loewe and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner, it tells the story of an arrogant phonetics professor named Henry Higgins who brags to his new friend Colonel Pickering that he can teach any woman to speak so well that he can pass her off as a noble woman. He chooses to work with a Miss Eliza Doolittle, who has a horrible cockney accent. After seeing Eliza, Pickering decides to make a wager with Henry saying he cannot change the way Eliza speaks.

As the show moves on you see the speech lessons Eliza goes through and then comes her first public appearance at the Ascot Racecourse. She seems to fool everyone until she lets out a cockney phrase and shocks all. Later, Henry wins the wager when Eliza poses as a noblewoman at an embassy ball. He gloats about his ability to change Eliza and she gets mad at Henry and walks off. Henry finds her a few days later to see if she would come back to speech lessons because he has realized that he has missed her. During the scene an argument arises and she rejects him again.

I won’t ruin the end of the story so you will just have to read it to learn what happens, but this show is a crowd pleaser!

Show Profile: Seussical The Musical

Who doesn’t love the rhyming world of Dr. Seuss? Seussical the Musical was one of the most popular performed shows of last year. Rightfully so, this show has a G rating which means its great for all audiences.

It does not center around just one of Dr. Seuss’ characters, but instead it’s a combination off some of this most beloved ones. Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, and Lazy Mayzie all make appearances in this Musical. The message behind everything is one of friendship, loyalty, and help from the community. If you are looking for a feel good show that will make you laugh and even make you cry, give Seussical a try.

Hello New Stock!

It’s almost July! Can you believe it? That means the year is over halfway through and Halloween is only 4 months away! Take it from us, it will be here before you know it! For some reason, Halloween always seems to sneak up on you. If you want to be ahead of the game stop into any of our three stores: Toledo, Fremont or Columbus, Ohio. We are getting all the newest items for Halloween and re-stocking on the best items from last year. It’s so exciting to see all the new items when they come in.

Our rentals are getting a face lift and we will be sending the stores all the goods. I will try not to be biased, but rentals are the way to go when picking out your Halloween costume. They are 100% original so you will be the only one. You don’t have to worry about going to a party and having 10 other people dressed as Jack Sparrow, Lady Gaga or Popeye. Don’t get me wrong, I have always been a fan of seeing the group of people walking down the street as the cast of Scooby Doo or Harry Potter, but being the only one is usually super fun.

Summertime is not vacation time..

Right now, people all over Ohio are dreaming of sunny skies and sandy beaches. Many will take summer vacations sometime in the coming months. Here at Costume Holiday House, summertime is a time to get down to business.

Beauty and the Beast was our most popular show for this past Spring season.

We are working hard to sort, match-up and create new pieces for our shows. Recently we made The Drowsy Chaperon and Phantom of the Opera. We are very excited to add those costumes to our ever-growing arsenal. I also got wind that we are going to make the main characters from Hairspray also this summer. Since we manufacture and create all our original costumes at our Fremont, Ohio headquarters our designer and seamstresses will have a lot to do before the fall season comes around.

Movies, Movies, Movies

Well it’s here.. the end of school for most kids here in Ohio. End of the year school projects are almost done and students are getting summer break fever! These past few weeks have been crazy with all the Ben Franklins and Abraham Lincolns. With the end of school comes vacations, time by the pool and getting out of the heat by enjoying an afternoon movie. There are so many good ones to choose from this summer!

The new Pirates of the Caribbean is out now, and we have a ton of pirate costumes and accessories to help you become the best scally-wag on board!

The Hangover 2 has been getting some really good feedback and reviews. Just the other day, a group of people were going to see the movie and they all wanted to look like a character from the movie. We got them hooked up. With items such as a bald cap and a beard, black detailz paint for the face tattoo, and some aviator sunglasses they were ready to go!

I know that everyone here is anxiously waiting for the last Harry Potter! Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 is due to come out July15th. Dressing up for the premier? You’ll need a robe and a wand, maybe some glasses and a scarf. For those of you that want to be on the sexier side we have the perfect costume for you!

X-Men: First Class is also one coming out soon. I think everyone here will be sporting their storm wigs, and maybe a vintage wolverine costume.

For all the kiddos out there Kung Fu Panda has been a hit. Wouldn’t you believe we have stuff for that movie too? Panda costumes, panda masks, ninja costumes for adults and kids. Fake snakes and tiger costumes.

Columbus ZombieWalk 2011

Here in Columbus, we’re fast approaching the Columbus ZombieWalk 2011 and we’ve been busy stocking up on our supply of make-up, prostheses, special-effects and costumes. Whether you’re a novice or a pro, we have what you need. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff are always on hand to lend inspiration or tips to help you look your most rotten and foul!

We’ve got loads of fresh stock coming in weekly – blood, fresh scab, 3D gel, rigid collodion, bruise wheels, liquid latex and zombie kits are always a hit with the undead crowd, so be sure to stock up sooner rather than later. We also have a veritable meat-market here with our large selection of severed heads , dismembered legs, fingers and hands.

Halloween is over, but it’s theater season here…

Hope all of our readers had a great Halloween. We remained busy till the end, helping customer get their costume and accessories up till the last day. With Halloween on Sunday, folks had plenty of time to party.

And with October over, most people look forwards to the upcoming Thanksgiving and Holiday season. But in our main office, Novemeber 1st isn’t a day to relax after the hectic Halloween season. Nope we kicked out fall theater season into full gear! We have been shipping out shows since Steptember and October, but November is our busiest month of the Fall and Winter season.

So far “Alice in Wonderland” had been the most popular show yet this year, followed closely by “Beauty and the Beast”. Also seasonal classics such as”The Crucible” and “A Christmas Carol” are becoming more popular than last year.

We also built our first production of “Ain’t Misbehavin” for American Heritage School in Boca Raton, FL this October. The performers are taking their show to competition and we wish them the best of luck.

We will be attending the Texas, Iowa and Arizona Thespian Conferences in the next few weeks. If you live in the areas or your school is attending the conference, come check us out. Our representatives are selling drama gear and will be on had to answer questions about renting costumes for your next production.

Ohio Renaissance Festival

If you are planning on visiting the fair state of Ohio before it gets too cold outside, make time to spend a day at the Ohio Renaissance Festival.

While you’re there, be sure to stop by our both were we carry costumes for sale and rent. We have a wide variety of beautiful coats, vest, pants, shirts, bodices, and dresses at affordable prices. We are also taking orders for custom made Renaissance garb. You can also rent a costume so you feel part of the experience for only $35.95 for the whole day!

The Ohio Renaissance Festival is a 30 acre 16th village located in south west Ohio close to Dayton, Cincinnati, and Columbus with easy access from I-71 and I-71.
